Why PAT Test?

The Health and Safety Executive claim that more than 2000 fires are caused by faulty electrical appliances in any single year (30 of these are fatal). The governing law is there in the interests of employers, employees and tenants of rented accommodation.  It is there to protect all users of  electrical equipment.

PAT Testing is regarded as the best way of abiding by the electrical regulations that exist to protect employees, customers and tenants.  As an employer or landlord, without regular PAT Testing you could find yourself in a serious situation if an electrical accident were to happen in your premises.

Most people are aware that electrical appliances can become damaged during use and over time.  What many people do not  understand is that this damage could render the appliance dangerous without any obvious signs.  Regular PAT Testing will make sure these faulty items are dealt with at the right time and in a correct manner.

There have been many cases when failure to comply with the electrical regulations have constituted a criminal offence which carries a maximum penalty of £20000 and / or two years imprisonment.

Letting Agents and private landlords could also be prosecuted in civil law, facing similar punishments  for not providing a duty of care to ensure the safety of tenants.

Insurance policies are also a concern.  Most companies will ask for evidence of PAT Testing either before providing cover or in the event of a claim.  Without the correct documentation you may find yourself uninsured and liable for serious risk.  Highland Appliance Testing Ltd will supply you with all the evidence you need to keep your records up to date.

In summary the main purpose of PAT Testing is to provide on-going safety for everyone involved in your business.  You need to ensure that your day to day environment complies with the legal standards and that the appliances are safe and regularly tested.
